What Day Is The Christian Sabbath?
What day is the “Christian Sabbath”? Which
day is the seventh day? What is the Sabbath? These are all
questions that a true confessed follower of Yeshuah (Yeshua) must
eventually confront. Sabbath, also known as Shabbat, was kept as
the day of worship and rest by ALL worshipers of God as recorded
in the entire Bible. It is always the seventh day of the week,
as kept from Friday night at sunset until Saturday night at
sunset.
In
the scriptures we are commanded to keep the day as a holy day or
“separated” from all other days in the week. The word for this
is “sanctified”, this means set apart for a holy purpose. The
Sabbath day or Shabbat is a day of rest and reflection, as well
as a day that was purposed for having a holy convocation, or in
other words, an assembly. The bible refers to the Sabbath as an
appointed time of God. Quite literally, it is a weekly
appointment, in which we are commanded to meet with our creator
and other believers.
In modern times many people use the term:
WWJD or “What Would Yeshuah Do” as a test of if one is living as
they should. It is
often overlooked that Yeshuah (Yeshua) would keep the Sabbath.
Yeshuah (Yeshua) said: “I am LORD of the Sabbath”, asserting his
authority over the “Lords Day”.
It is disappointing that followers of the Messiah do not
follow him in this regards. There are numerous recorded examples
of his Sabbath observance in the New Testament, as well as
examples of the disciple’s obedience with God’s instructions on
the Sabbath. The Bible clearly states that the Sabbath is a
“Sign” of God’s people. If this is so, how many of “God’s
People” do you encounter in your life today?
Sunday can never be Saturday. Sunday can
never be the weekly Sabbath. Sunday is not the “Christian
Sabbath”. Sunday was never “Sanctified” by God. Look at your
calendar. What day does the week start with? What day does it
end with? It starts with Sunday (Day 1) and ends with Saturday
(Day 7). Why is it said that people take a sabbatical?
If you don’t know the
definition of the word sabbatical stop reading and look it up.
What is the word for Saturday in Spanish? I
don’t want to belabor the point, but Sunday or any other day of
the week is not the Sabbath time. The Bible text is perfectly
clear about the time of the Sabbath.
I have often heard people refer to the
abandonment of the Sabbath by Christians as: “The Nine
Commandments and The One Suggestion” or the “Ten Commandments
Minus One”. It is concerning that so called “Born Again”
Christians lack the discernment to see this obvious omission in
religious observance. No one else will stand in your place at
the time of judgment to answer for your behavior Can you go your
own way and walk the narrow path when everyone else is running
the other way? Narrow paths don’t accommodate large groups. The
question is: WWYD (What Will You Do)?
